As soon as it gets warm outside I sing George Gershwin’s “Summertime” to the kids before bedtime. I’ve shortened it by a lot so I should probably take the time to incorporate ALL the lyrics at some point, but for now, it’s really fun to sing, and to hear them sing.
Here’s Ella Fitzgerald’s version, with the full lyrics below the video:
Summertime and the livin’ is easy
Fish are jumpin’ and the cotton is high
Oh your Daddy’s rich and your Ma is good lookin’
So hush little baby, don’t you cry
One of these mornings
You’re goin’ to rise up singin’
Then you’ll spread your wings
And you’ll take (to) the sky
But till that morning
There’s a nothin’ can harm you
With Daddy and Mammy standin’ by
