Lenape Swim Club Open House on Friday 6/24 – the day after school is out!

Lenape Swim Club

What to do the Friday after school is out? Well, I for one am not going to stay in the house and go insane. The Lenape Swim Club (off of 518) is hosting a no cost Open House for members and non members on Friday, June 24th from 12-8pm. I will be there checking out the scene. For Lenape Swim Club rates please visit their site here: lenapeswimclub.com. In talking with two families about the Swim Club it sounds like a great place to join. The families get along well and the kids have a blast. My only hesitation is that my Summer Swim Club budget is -$25.00 so I don’t know about scrounging up the $700+ needed for first time members.

Serena Williams HSN Jewelry, Handbags + Apparel

ringsofblingbracelet

I think I’m the last person in the world to know that Serena Williams has a line of jewelry, handbags and apparel offered throuh HSN. I caught her on the other night and she has these crazy (good) looking “Rings of Bling” bracelets! You can choose between goldtone or silvertone colored rings, and there are several different leather colors to chose from. The picture above is the BRONZE leather with SILVERTONE rings. They cost $59.95 each.

Note to Serena and HSN – please stop calling them “Rings of Bling”, it’s not cool.

‘The Revivalists’ is an exhibition at CAA in London curated by british design commenter Max Fraser. The show features a stable of emerging designers and craftspeople all hailing from London. ‘The Revivalists’ explores the definitions of craft and design in contemporary culture, showcasing where these fields merge and migrate. The designers on show all represent a growing number of creative people rebelling against the newness of mass production, choosing a more traditional mode of creation. One of the exhibit’s highlights includes the illuminated seating collection by Lee Broom, which transforms old chairs into sculptural works using lighting…

TIME – In the Recession, Shoppers Are Becoming Hagglers

haggling

Think you should haggle only when buying a car or shopping in the streets of Morocco? In this recession, if you’re not bargaining for everything everywhere, you’re needlessly draining your wallet. According to the consulting firm America’s Research Group, in October, 56% of consumers said they had recently tried to negotiate at retail outlets other than car dealerships. Of those hagglers, 50% got deals. When the company repeated the survey in May, 72% of consumers said they had tried to haggle, and a stunning 80% were successful. “What you can do today is unbelievable,” says Herb Cohen, an expert dealmaker and the author of the 1980 classic You Can Negotiate Anything. “Americans may finally learn that price tags weren’t put there by the big printer in the sky.”
